The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad reached Orange in 1887, offering both passenger as well as freight service. The original depot, still in existence, was built in 1891, followed by a newer depot which was constructed in 1938. The railroad helped the local citrus industry thrive, allowing fresh fruit to be shipped throughout the U.S. The Santa Fe Depot closed in 1970 and was acquired by the City of Orange. Currently used for passenger connections, Metrolink travels as far south as San Diego and as far north as connections in Los Angeles.
