Casa Romantica was built in 1927-28. It was to be a vacation home for the Hanson family, who maintained a permanent residence in Los Angeles. The architect was Carl Lindbom, who also designed Casa Pacifica for Hanson’s partner, Hamilton Cotton, at the south end of town. Both mansions were in the requisite Spanish Colonial Revival style. Casa Romantica was built on 5 acres, had 5400 square feet of inside space, and totaled 7200 square feet with the expansive interior courtyard. A unique keyhole entry door, white stucco, red tile roof, wrought iron decorative elements, and imported lighting all added to the home’s ambiance. The covered exterior walkway around the courtyard and the covered outdoor family room with beehive fireplace completed the design.
